Masashi Ebinuma

Masashi Ebinuma was one of Japan’s most successful competitors in the U66kg division during the 2010s. Compact, explosive and technically sharp, he built a career defined by world titles and Olympic medals.

Ebinuma became World Champion three times, winning gold in 2011, 2013 and 2014. His ability to remain at the top across consecutive seasons highlighted both his tactical intelligence and physical consistency. On the Olympic stage he secured bronze medals at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Games, confirming his status as a reliable performer under pressure.

He was also a regular winner on the IJF World Tour. Among his most notable victories were Grand Slam gold in Paris in 2016, Grand Slam wins in Tokyo and Osaka in 2019, Grand Prix titles in Düsseldorf in 2015 and Abu Dhabi, as well as numerous other podium finishes.

After retiring from competition in 2021, Ebinuma spent two years in the United Kingdom exploring different coaching styles and improving his English. He has since returned to the World Judo Tour, this time in the coaching chair, guiding a new generation of Japanese athletes and sharing the experience gained from his own remarkable career.
