Joshiro Maruyama retirement

Joshiro Maruyama retires, ooh nooo!

The judo world is still processing the emotional retirement of Maruyama Joshiro, one of the most exciting and beloved fighters ever on the tatami. A two-time world champion in -66kg (2019, 2021), Maruyama won hearts with his fearless attacks and perfect uchi-mata. From starting judo at age three to legendary battles with Hifumi Abe, his journey inspired fans everywhere. Even without an Olympic appearance, his world medals, Grand Slam wins, and team gold defined a true judo hero. His last IJF moment came in Paris 2024.

This video is a tribute to Maruyama Joshiro, one of the greatest judo heroes of our time. From explosive uchi-mata to warrior spirit on the tatami, Maruyama inspired a whole generation of young judoka to dream bigger and fight harder. He wasn’t just winning medals — he was making judo cool, emotional, and unforgettable. This is for the fans, the teammates, and everyone who loves the grind of judo life. The tatami won’t be the same without you, but your legacy lives on.
