Takato and Polling the most successful in 2013

The end of 2013 season arrived really fast. We already did similar report about 2013, but mostly it was in numbers. We took some time to compare WRL from the beggining of the year with the final list of this year. The most successful athletes are Naohisa Takato who succeed to won 2214 (816-->3030) points in this year while his colleague Kim Polling won 2430 (218-->2648).

Naohisa Takato started 2013 year as fourth athlete at the WRL with 816 points. Meanwhile he took the World title in Rio de Janeiro, also he was winner of the Paris and Tokyo Grand Slams. Now he is #1 at the WRL with 3030 points. Dashdavaa of Mongolia had also great year, he jumped from 370 points to 1882 and finished as third at WRL.

The Olympic Champion Sarah Menezes is still at first position of her weight category. She won 1106 points in this year, by starting season with 1106 points and finishing with 2654. Current World Champion Urantsegtseg Munkhbat won 1618 in total this year and finished on second place of the WRL. (592-->2210)

World Champion is still the same, Mashashi Ebinuma, but he is at third position at the WRL. Tumurkhuleg Davaadorj in January of 2013 had 380 points, during the year he added another 1450 points which was enough for him to took the lead and finishing the season with 1830 points in total.

Big season for #1 Majlinda Kelmendi, new World Champion, first World Champion in the history of Kosovo. 2124 points won in this season, started at 7th place with 792 points and finishing with 2916. Erika Miranda started and finished at second place, she just swaped numbers of this year, starting with 1086-->1860. The biggest surprise with 1574 points was Jana Sunberg of Finland, jumped from 29th place to 4th , 240 points she had at the beggining of the year.

The Olympic Champion Mansur Isaev (RUS) started to enjoy too much in his "superstar" status, rumors said that after his money prize of 1,000,000$ of Chelyabinsk region he doesn't give 100% anymore and probably this could be the reason why he is not in the first ten of the WRL. Former World Champion in division up to 66kg Mongolian Khashbaatar did good job by improving his position from 26th to 4th place of the WRL. Surprising Wang Ki-Chun is also not ranked in top ten.

Kaori Matsumoto Olympic and World Champion ranked #1 in January doesn't reach the top of the list as she didn't compete since the Olympic's in London. She is still in the game, just waiting the begin of the Olympic Qualification. Meanwhile German Miryam Roper took the lead at the WRL with 2174 points in front of current World Champion Rafaela Silva.

Finalists of the World's in Rio are on the top of division of the U81kg. Avtandil Tchrikishvili with 2192 (414) points is ranked as no.1, current World Champion, Loic Pietri is on the second place with 1792 (320) points in total. Sergiu Toma of Moldavia changed his nationality at the beggining of the year, now he is fighting for the UAE.

Her first World title ever and at the top of the WRL. Yarden Gerbi did a big jump this year by winning 2336 points, starting the season with 538 points and finishing with 2874. At the second place came Clarisse Agbegnenou with 2366 points in total. In January, the Olympic Champion, Urska Zolnir was #1, but she retired. Alice Schlesinger was ranked at fourth place at the beggining of the year, we didn't saw her on the mat this year, at least not on judo mat as she was fighting in Sambo at the World Combat Games. Is she out ?

Iliadis didn't succeed to take third World title in row. After gold in Tokyo 2010 and Paris 2011 he finished on third place at the World's, starting season #2 with 1120 points and finishing on fourth with 1682 points, this year he won only 562 points. Asley Gonzalez of Cuba didn't changed his poisition, he is still #1 with 2554 points.

Kim Polling of Netherlands is for sure the most successful athlete on the WRL of 2013. She started the season with only 218 points, #32 position. She won 2430 points in this year and finishing as WRL #1 with 2648 points in total. Canadian Kelita Zupancic also did a big move, from 440 points to 1968.

Elkhan Mammadov of Azerbaijan had fantastic year. As well as Polling he started year from 32nd position, during the season he won 2166 points, took World title and that was more than enough to finish the year as #1 with 2376 points in total. Lukas Krpalek moved from 566-->2018 points, from year to year he is better and better. As he fought only at one tournament this year, the Olympic Champion Tagir Kaibulaev is not ranked in first ten at the WRL.

This year we didn't saw her on the mat, as she is still recovering from the knee surgery, but the Olympic Champion Kayla Harrison was WRL #1 at the beggining of the year. Mayra Aguiar changed her position from 2nd to 1st with 2320 points in total. Abigel Joo of Hungary did a good move from 770 to 1938 points, but her coach is suspended recently, how she will do it in 2014?

O100kg

The icon of modern judo, Olympic and World Champion, Teddy Riner is no longer ranked as world no.1. Riner is on second place with 2300 points and recovering from his shoulder surgery which he had in september. Rafael Silva of Brazil took the lead of the heavy-weight category with 2430 points.

O78kg

Idalys Ortiz is still ranked as WRL #1. Starting season with 1380 and finishing it with 2790 points. Altheman of Brazil did good move from 958 points to 2666 points. Elena Ivaschenko passed away earlier this year, she had 790 points and ranked at 6th place in January.
