Céline Lebrun

Céline Lebrun was one of France’s most consistent performers in the U78kg division during the late 1990s and 2000s. Powerful, composed and tactically astute, she built a career that placed her among the very best of her generation.

Her Olympic breakthrough came at the Sydney 2000 Games, where she reached the final and secured the silver medal. A year later she confirmed her world-class status by becoming World Champion in 2001. Across her career she collected four World Championship medals, underlining her ability to perform repeatedly on the biggest stage.

Lebrun was equally dominant in Europe. Between 1999 and 2005 she claimed five European titles, establishing herself as the benchmark in her category. On home soil she was particularly formidable, winning six titles at the prestigious Tournoi de Paris and earning nine medals there between 1997 and 2009.

Her consistency was reflected in the IJF World Ranking, where she held the number one position in the U78kg category in 2009 and 2010. Lebrun’s blend of strength and technical control made her a cornerstone of the French women’s team for more than a decade.
