Nomura’s dazzling Ippon-Seoi-Nage explained
Tadahiro Nomura is synonymous with drop morote-seoi-nage but he actually has a very nice standing ippon-seoi-nage too.

In adopting a right-handed sleeve-lapel grip, where he throws morote-seoi-nage to the right, Nomura does his ippon-seoi-nage to the left (off the lapel grip).

He sets up the throw by lifting his tsurite (right arm) and turning the back of his hand towards him. This allows him to open up uke for the throw.

He then shoots up his left hand under uke’s armpit while pulling downwards on uke’s lapel so that uke’s upper body is firmly loaded onto his back.

In terms of footwork, he starts from a position where his right leg is slightly in front of his left leg, so there is a slight kenka-yotsu stance here.

He takes a step forward with his right leg and pivots with his left.

Once he makes the turn and uke is loaded on his back, he just takes a bow.
