Cho Min-Sun
Min-Sun Cho is one of South Korea’s most accomplished judoka and a true icon of women’s judo in the 1990s. Competing at the highest level for more than a decade, she combined technical excellence with competitive composure to build an extraordinary record.
Cho became World Champion in 1993 and 1995, confirming her place among the elite. Her crowning achievement came at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, where she captured Olympic gold. It was the highlight of a remarkable Olympic journey that also included medals in 1988 and 2000, making her a triple Olympic medallist.
Her success began early. In 1990 she claimed the World Junior title, signalling the arrival of a major talent. Across her senior career she collected four World Championship medals and dominated prestigious tournaments. She won the Tournoi de Paris in 1990, 1992 and 1995, and triumphed five times at the German Open World Masters between 1993 and 1997.
After retiring from competition, Cho remained deeply involved in the sport. She became an IJF referee and has officiated at major international events, including World Championship finals. In recognition of her achievements and contribution to judo, she was inducted into the IJF Hall of Fame in 2018.
