Yanet Bermoy

Yanet Bermoy Acosta

Yanet Bermoy Acosta has been one of Cuba’s most successful lightweight judoka and a standout competitor across two Olympic cycles. Technically sharp and tactically disciplined, she rose to prominence at a remarkably young age.

Her breakthrough came in 2005 when, aged just 18, she captured the World Championship title. That triumph immediately established her as one of the brightest talents in women’s judo. She later added a World Junior title, confirming that her early success was no coincidence.

Bermoy proved her consistency on the Olympic stage as well. At the Beijing 2008 Games she reached the final in the U48kg division and secured the silver medal. Four years later in London she again fought her way to the Olympic final, this time competing in U52kg, and added a second Olympic silver to her collection. Reaching two Olympic finals in different weight categories underlined her adaptability and longevity at elite level.

Throughout her career, Bermoy represented Cuba with pride, combining speed, intelligent gripping and strong groundwork. Her world title and two Olympic silver medals place her among the most accomplished judoka in Cuban history.
