Triple world champ Tato Grigalashvili still U81kg

Tato Grigalashvili has established himself as one of the defining judoka of his generation. The Georgian star built an extraordinary record in the U81kg division, highlighted by three consecutive world titles in Tashkent (2022), Doha (2023) and Abu Dhabi (2024), confirming his dominance in one of judo’s most competitive weight categories.

His consistency at the highest level is equally remarkable. Grigalashvili also claimed World Championship silver medals in 2021 and 2025 and added Olympic silver at the Paris 2024 Games, underlining his ability to deliver on the biggest stages. At European level he captured titles in 2020, 2022 and 2024, alongside silver medals in 2023 and 2025.

His success was already visible at a young age. He won the European U23 titles in 2020 and 2021 and collected bronze medals at the Junior World Championships in 2017 and 2019. Victories at the IJF World Masters in 2021 and 2022 further confirmed his place among the sport’s elite.

Grigalashvili is also known for his impressive head-to-head records against top rivals. Against Alpha Oumar Djalo he leads 7–1, while he holds a 5–2 advantage over Matthias Casse and a narrow 4–3 record against Olympic champion Saeid Mollaei.

Although he briefly tested himself at U90kg, including a victory at the 2026 Grand Prix Upper Austria, his main division remains U81kg, where his dynamic gripping, relentless attacks and Georgian fighting spirit continue to set the standard.

Still young and hungry, Grigalashvili remains one of the key figures shaping the future of Georgian and world judo.
