Ole Bischof

Ole Bischof

Ole Bischof is one of Germany’s most respected judoka and a defining figure in the U81kg division of his era. Known for his physical strength, fighting spirit and tactical discipline, he reached the pinnacle of the sport at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, where he captured gold.

Four years later in London he returned to the Olympic final and claimed silver, once again facing South Korea’s Kim Jae-Bum. Two Olympic finals in consecutive Games confirmed Bischof’s place among the elite of his generation. He considered his 2004 European silver medal as his most important to himself to get a medal.

Beyond the Olympics, he secured world bronze in 2009 and claimed the European title in 2005. Competing for TSV Abensberg, he enjoyed significant domestic and international success and contributed to the club’s strong reputation in European team competitions.

Bischof was coached by former world champion Detlef Ultsch, whose influence helped shape his disciplined and physically imposing style. After retiring from competition, Bischof remained closely connected to the sport. He became a popular television commentator for Eurosport and an active promoter of judo, using his experience and charisma to bring the sport to a wider audience.

Ole Bischof’s legacy is built not only on Olympic gold but also on his continued contribution to judo in Germany and across Europe.
