Clarisse Agbegnenou

Clarisse Agbegnenou

Clarisse Agbegnenou is one of the most successful judoka of her generation and a dominant force in the U63kg category. The French star has built an extraordinary career filled with Olympic titles, world championships and European triumphs.

Her greatest Olympic moment came at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where she captured the gold medal in the U63kg category. On the same day she helped France win the inaugural Olympic mixed team title, securing a historic double. Agbegnenou had already proven her Olympic pedigree earlier, taking silver in Rio 2016. She later added an individual bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and another Olympic gold with the French mixed team.

On the world stage Agbegnenou has been remarkably consistent. She is a six-time world champion, winning titles in 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023. She also collected world silver medals in 2013 and 2015 and added bronze in 2024, confirming her status as one of the most reliable champions in modern judo.

Her European record is equally impressive with six continental titles between 2013 and 2020. Agbegnenou has also contributed to several European and world team titles for France.

Among her many highlights are seven victories at the prestigious Paris Grand Slam between 2013 and 2024 and two triumphs at the IJF World Masters.

A flagbearer for France at the Tokyo Olympic Games, Agbegnenou remains one of the most influential athletes in world judo, but now focussing on having her second child.
